Suede Cleaner
Suede cleaners are used for suede fabric materials. You should not confuse suede with nubuck.
What is suede? Suede is a type of leather that has velvet-like appearance. Nubuck is the superior (more durable)
version of suede, which is also a leather type. Suede is a popular material choice in car seats, chair seats and
shoes.
Other than leather, suede is also used for making zero gravity chair seats.
Benefits and Features
Your chair seat will be more waterproof. After applying the protection layer, apply drips of water onto the
seat. You will notice that the water drops bounce off the seat very easily, not making the seat wet.
It protects your suede seat from dirt and grime, making it clean for a very long time. Suede chairs are more
prone to dirt than leather chairs because of their texture surface and inner leather structure.
How to Buy
In the suede cleaner kit, you will have
- suede brush
- eraser (if not available, you can use stationery erasers)
- suede cleaner
They are much cheaper than a leather care kit. Often times, you can just buy one for $5 or less than $10. One
unit of suede cleaner can last you for a few months.
Usually suede cleaners are also nubuck cleaners. You will find that in the market, it is common to see suede and
nubuck cleaner 2 in 1. This means a suede cleaner can also clean the nubuck fabric.
How to Clean
The process is more simply than using a leather care kit. You have the suede cleaner and suede brush.
First, brush off dirt, dust and other unwanted particles using the suede brush. You can also do this in a single
direction when brushing your seat. Never rub it back and forth. Notice the accumulated brown dirt on the brush
tips. Make sure to brush every area of the chair gently without excessive force.
After brushing the dirt, use the eraser to rub off any stubborn spots and stains. Note that you should only
erase if the stained surface is dry.
Then simply spray the cleaner onto the suede seat. You will notice your seat looks slightly wet. This is
perfectly normal. Let it dry for a while.
After that, you could repeat the brushing and spraying the suede cleaner process if you want to.
The end result is a soft and clean suede seat for your zero gravity chair.
Tips
What if you accidentally poured water or other similar liquid onto the suede chair seat? You should immediately
realize that you cannot wipe it off by applying pressure. This will only drive the liquid further down the chair
seat. Instead, use a micro fiber (dry cloth as alternative) cloth and dab the moist gently. Remember not to apply
pressure on the area of the wet seat. Do not use a hairdryer to heat up the wet area. Instead, let it air dry after
you have removed the excess moisture using the micro fiber cloth.
How often should you clean your suede seat? The answer depends on your usage. If you use it frequently, you have
to clean it monthly. Actually, suede seats get more dirty easily than leather. So you definitely have to clean it
more frequently than cleaning a leather seat (few times a year).
You can also use the suede cleaner for your suede car seats, furniture and shoes.
