Leather Care Kit
After buying your zero gravity chair, you should take care of your leather chair seat. Why should you use a
leather care kit? Can't you just use a slightly wet cloth to wipe your leather seat? No, you can't.
In the leather care kit, you have a
- sponge or micro fibre cloth or ordinary rag
- leather cleaner solution (or cleaning cream)
- leather conditioner (or protection cream)
What is the difference with sponge and micro fiber cloth? Well, micro fiber cloths are becoming much more common
these days because they can absorb more dampness and clean dirt better. This means the cloth can soak the leather
cleaner cream better and absorb more dirt. Besides, you can also use the micro fiber cloth alone by itself without
any cleaner to wipe off dust because they can trap dust particles more effectively. Sponges are good for "wet jobs"
too. One advantage is you can clean it more easily later on. Sponge are cheap to buy again too, if you don't want
to wash it.
Benefits
A leather care kit increases the life of your leather seat. If you don't clean the leather at all, it might only
last a few years. But, if you maintain and clean it few times a year, your leather seat can last almost
forever.
Protect your leather surface against cracking and breaking down over time.
Prevent leather from breaking down so you don't have to repair it in future. It can also slow down wear and tear
drastically if given proper maintenance.
Makes your leather seat look like new again, bringing back its vibrant color. When you find a stain, simply use
the leather care kit to clean the fabric or upholstery.
Keeps your leather smelling good!
How to Buy
Do not simply choose a generic leather care kit. You have to know your leather type first. Different leather
care kit are made for different leather types (full, top, corrected gain or split). Make sure you buy the right one
for the right job. For example, leather and leatherette are not the same materials!
Most of these kits are very affordable to buy, costing below $15. When you own a leather furniture like the
expensive zero gravity chair, there is no excuse to save this small amount of money!
You are better off buying leather care kits that are water based. Never buy the ones that are based on wax.
Guide on How to Clean
First and foremost, don't squeeze the leather solution yet! You have to brush off any dust and debris using a
simple fine brush or micro fiber cloth. An alternative is using the vacuum cleaner to do this.
Now it's time to clean the leather seat. You can squeeze some of the leather cleaner cream onto your micro fiber
cloth or sponge. Sometimes, it comes in the form of aerosol spray. In this case, you spray it onto your sponge or
cloth. Sometimes, the leather repair product kit supplies you with a cleaning brush. In this case, you spray the
cleaner onto the seat first. Then clean it with the brush. When cleaning, you will notice there are suds and foam
building up. This is perfectly normal.
Finally, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe off the foam and dirt buildup on the seat. Wipe it clean.
After this, you should apply the leather conditioner. But before you do so, you could do the cleaning one more
time if the seat's really dirty (but don't clean till the dye comes off). Apply the conditioner on the microfiber
cloth and start wiping the seat, spreading the protective conditioner across the seat evenly.
Note: Some leather cleaning kits suggest that you wait for a period of time before and after applying the
conditioner. Be sure to read the instructions first.
Sometimes, you could have applied too much conditioner. What to do? Leather can't absorb the excess conditioner.
So you take a damp cloth and wipe off the lingering conditioner at all spots.
Tips
You should prevent your leather seat from cracking by protecting it against the sun. Sun can very well destroy
leather. Somehow, if sun rays manage to get into your living room, use a chair cover.
You must only use the tools supplied by the leather care kit. Never use or combine other cleaning tools for
cleaning your leather seat. You may harm the leather.
The seams of the leather can be hard to reach sometimes. You could use a brush instead of cloth to clean this
area.
